I have this wonderful T-Shirt that proudly says, "Virginia Golf Course 1936." Unfortunately for this project, the first nine holes of Virginia Golf Course were built in 1930. It would be worth figuring out if the next 9 holes were built by the WPA - the history of the course says the WPA added the next nine holes in 1933. The problem is, the WPA was not a federal program until the summer of 1935. Maybe it was the CCC. There is a 1933 newspaper article that talks about action by the city council wrapping up construction of the next nine holes. The 1938 aerial photograph has all 18 holes.
However, the WPA did work on this course. Records have disappeared as to what they actually did. There is a great wall surrounding the golf course, I think it was built by the CCC.
The WPA did a LOT of work on the park across the street from the course, and I sure wish the area had money to restore its interesting features.
