I arrived at Columbia around 6:45 on Saturday, August 18, 2012. The sun had just risen, so I thought I’d be on the course by myself. The lot was not empty. I was hoping to rent a cart and play 18. No way. In order for me to play by myself, my game is not too good of late, I started on the back 9. The course is nice. It is still finish a hole and walk just a short distance to the next hole. It is less than a suburban course, but a little more than some of the other WPA course I’ve played. I had the pictures I’d found at certain holes. Once I arrived at the holes, they looked nothing like the pictures whatsoever. It turns out, according to Al Wespgringe, 763-788-0041, the course was completely redone a couple of times, the latest being in 1969, when it was closed. The one thing that was still the same was the clubhouse. Well, they’ve modernized parts of the place, but the outside still has the notorious classic rock facing we’re used to seeing. Al said there was a place where there was something about the WPA. Sure enuff, in the cement on the west side of the building, it said WPA 1938. I needed a picture of the east side of the building, and I found another WPA marker, it said 1938 as well. Al told me all of the stone had been replaced, but done the same. $21.56 to play 9 holes.
